Police Officer
About the role
Patrols an assigned area of the City in various modes of transportation to control traffic, investigate citizen complaints, prevent crime, assist at accident scenes, and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Regularly patrols assigned patrol district while observing traffic for violations and issuing citations.
- Responds to a variety of citizen complaints and assists victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Prepares detailed reports on accidents and investigations.
- Conducts proactive patrols, makes arrests, and uses force when necessary.
- Interacts with the public and businesses to build relationships and address issues.
- Follows up on complaints and assists in major investigations.
- Appears in court to testify on cases.
- Checks business establishments and controls crowds during disturbances.
- Assists in processing new inmates and serving legal documents.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
Requirements
College degree required, minimum of an associate's degree or equivalent college credit hours plus relevant law enforcement experience. M.C.O.L.E.S. State Certification. Must be able to make proper physical arrests and use force when necessary. Train and qualify in handgun and rifle use. Complete all training requirements, including use of force tools and techniques. Demonstrate ability to prepare thorough reports and interact professionally with the public.

Skills
Ability to view and operate computers in various conditions, use current computer technology and software, and interact positively with the public.
