About the role
The UWOPD Dispatcher position evaluates and acts upon information and knowledge regarding safety, law enforcement and the University in general. This position is responsible for communication via radio, Mobile Data Computer (MDC) terminal, telephone, written correspondence, computer programs and chatting and in-person conversation & customer service. This position coordinates emergency and non-emergency communication between the UW Oshkosh Police Department and other campus departments, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical units and other agencies.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates and acts upon information and knowledge regarding safety, law enforcement and the University in general.
- Communicates via radio, Mobile Data Computer (MDC) terminal, telephone, written correspondence, computer programs and chatting and in-person conversation & customer service.
- Covers emergency and non-emergency communication between the UW Oshkosh Police Department and other campus departments, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical units and other agencies.
- Maintains complex records of information in directories and alarm databases, ensures continuity of operations plans, and ensures other resources are accurate and up-to-date.
- Trains new dispatchers, manages training task updates, and provides training and coaching weekly reports.
- Schedules logistics and secures resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution.
- Communicates effectively and provides accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high stress emergency situations.
- Troubleshoots, triages, and escalates issues according to established policies and procedures.
- Documents incidents accurately and adheres to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
- Operates police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and processes requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies.
- Schedules logistics and secures resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution.
- Communicates effectively and provides accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high stress emergency situations.
- Troubleshoots, triages, and escalates issues according to established policies and procedures.
- Maintains complex records of information in directories and alarm databases, ensures continuity of operations plans, and ensures other resources are accurate and up-to-date.
- Trains new dispatchers, manages training task updates, and provides training and coaching weekly reports.
- Affords assistance in ensuring training initiatives are completed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in a customer service-related position.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Proven ability to perform varied tasks quickly, accurately and simultaneously while under stress.
- Proven ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
- A positive attitude and be proactive and team oriented.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately detect and interpret essential visual and auditory signals required for safe and effective job performance while maintaining focus in environments with varying noise levels.
- Commitment to demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and cultural competency in serving a diverse campus community.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher college degree.
- Prior experience in a dispatch center or a communications center capacity.
- Knowledge of the TIME system procedures and DOT/NCIC/CIB polices and guidelines.
- Some knowledge of Police authority, judicial procedures, and law enforcement reporting requirements.
- Ability to operate communications systems, including two-way radio dispatch equipment, multiple-line telephone systems, MDC systems, and alarms systems.

Benefits
This position is eligible for Night Differential Pay for time worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
Pay
$22.00 per hour

Night shift differential pay is available.
