About the Role

Under direct or indirect supervision, enforce the law, provide service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require. Prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders. Responsible for enforcement duties protecting the safety and welfare of patients, staff, visitors, and all property within the jurisdiction of the Ector County Hospital District (dba Medical Center Health System). Exercise independent judgment within legal and departmental guidelines, including policies and procedures set by the Board of Directors and the Chief of Police.

In the absence of the Sergeant or Captain, oversee day-to-day activities on a specific assigned shift. Participate in team building, officer safety, and support leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce laws and regulations within the hospital district
  • Prevent crime and suppress disturbances
  • Investigate criminal offenses and arrest offenders
  • Protect the safety and welfare of patients, staff, visitors, and property
  • Oversee day-to-day shift activities in the absence of a Sergeant or Captain
  • Participate in team building and support leadership initiatives
  • Render credible testimony in court
  • Use computers, two-way radios, and telephones effectively

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Texas Peace Officer Commission with Intermediate Certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of police service with ECHD PD
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Maintain Mental Health Peace Officer Certification
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Qualify for Texas Motor Vehicle Insurance

  • Leadership and supervisory skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Proficiency in using computers, two-way radios, and telephones

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Visual, auditory, and olfactory acuity required
  • Extensive standing, walking, and climbing
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions with varying work hours and shifts
  • May be required to restrain patients
  • May require heavy lifting
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases
