Description
Join the Community Volunteer Patrol today! The Community Volunteer Patrol program is designed to inspire community engagement by encouraging residents to get involved in the nuts and bolts of local government through volunteering their time and talents in various city departments. This program seeks to create an innovative partnership between the City and the residents we serve, by providing volunteers the opportunity to directly impact programs and services that our residents count on every day.
Examples of Duties
- Police Explorers: Interact with law enforcement and other community advisors in a serious, regimented atmosphere where the students can demonstrate their personal initiative. Participate in community policing projects like child fingerprinting, school safety seminars, and crime prevention programs. Assist in various law enforcement details including traffic control and searches. Ride with Sunrise Police Officers during normal 11.5-hour patrol shifts if 16 years of age or older.
- Fire Explorers: Learn and experience lawful citizenship as part of the fire-rescue service. Receive training in basic life support skills, firefighting techniques, hazardous material recognition, and advanced life support.
- Community Volunteer Patrol (CVP): Provide administrative assistance, greet visitors, assist at special events, and conduct resident neighborhood patrols.
Requirements
- Volunteers do not need to live within the City of Sunrise, but must be at least 15 years old.
- Potential volunteers will need to submit the online application and may be subject to background checks depending on where they will be placed.
- Once selected, participants can enroll for free in the national President's Volunteer Service Awards program.
- CVP members are eligible to earn special recognition and awards from the City for their creditable volunteer service hours.
Supplemental Information
- Internship Opportunities: The City of Sunrise offers internships in administration, finance, leisure services, urban planning, emergency management, engineering, and special projects. Internships may be paid or for credit.
- HOURS: Up to 26 hours per week / (3 to 6 months to be determined)
