About the role
NWCare is seeking a full-time Traveling Podiatry/Medical Assistant to provide mobile podiatric medical assistance under the supervision of a Podiatrist. The position offers opportunities for on-site medical care services to residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine foot care such as cutting toenails, removing corns and calluses, applying foot cleansing foams and antiseptic cleanser foam.
- Takes and records patients' medical histories and assists with physical examinations to allow the Podiatric Physician to diagnose problems and formulate treatment plans.
- Sets up and takes down work stations at facilities and stocks equipment in travel cart and vehicle for efficient patient care.
- Maintains podiatry equipment and performs light maintenance tasks like replacing vacuum bags and wiping down equipment with disinfectant wipes.
- Maintains high levels of customer/patient satisfaction by performing tasks such as positioning patients for foot care, assisting with lifting legs, performing pre-treatment evaluations, and educating patients about treatment options.
- Performs various procedures such as biopsies, debridements, removal of ingrown nails, draining abscesses, collecting cultures, and treating fungal toenails.
- Provides postoperative care to ensure wound healing and recovery from local anesthesia effects.
- Ensures punctual, regular, and predictable attendance and works collaboratively in a team environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous Medical School applicants, withdrawn medical students, unmatched graduates, or foreign graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Salary commensurate with medical education and experience.
- Certification from the American Society of Podiatric Medical Assistants (PMAC) is preferred but not required.
- Educational assistance provided for PMAC if needed.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred but not required.
- Verifiable credentials from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) is preferred but not required.
Travel Requirement
This position requires regular in-state travel for the purpose of providing mobile podiatry care at Assisted Living and Nursing homes statewide Oregon. Travel will primarily consist of day trips but may include overnights. Remote home-based administrative work is required on non-clinical/admin days.
