About the role

The Deputy Chief of Staff is a key member of the senior leadership team, and actively participates in the development of overall management objectives and philosophies necessary for the attainment of optimum efficiency in providing health care to South Texas Veterans Health Care Veteran population.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care.
  • Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to support an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls.
  • Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care.
  • Promotes the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching and encouraging self-assessment.
  • Works with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of VHA and VA.
  • Accomplishes clinical program goals consistent with available resources and participate in the allocation of facility resources and modification of programs to best meet the needs of the Veteran population.
  • Makes sure compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to outside professional activities and ethical conduct.
  • Creates and promotes a High Reliability Organization, fostering an environment of system oriented continuous quality improvement, within which program and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated.
  • Oversees the credentialing and privileging facility to include oversight of regulatory and legal issues, monitoring medical staff and other licensed independent practitioners' compliance and quality of practice.
  • Ensures compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to outside professional activities and ethical conduct.

Requirements

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT & will remain open until January 17, 2027 or until positions are filled. Eligible applications received will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur.

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Residency Training: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine and surgery, approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted.
