PMHNP/DNP Preceptorship (Jan 2027-April 2027)

About the role

Sheppard Pratt hospital programs in Towson, MD and Elkridge, MD serve individuals with acute psychiatric and behavioral health needs requiring inpatient and day hospitalization services. Program units include child inpatient, adolescent inpatient, adult general inpatient and day hospital, geriatric inpatient, adult thought disorders inpatient and day hospital, co‑occurring adult inpatient unit, geriatric inpatient unit, and specialty units such as eating disorders, neuro/intellectual disabilities, psychiatric urgent care, and trauma disorders. The average patient stay is 7–10 days. Treatment focuses on stabilization of psychiatric symptoms, skill acquisition, and application to enable safe transition back to the community. Placement on a specific unit is not guaranteed.

Responsibilities

• Learn one‑on‑one from a licensed nurse practitioner or physician.
• Demonstrate readiness to learn from all experiences and patient populations.
• Show patience and compassion when working with this challenging patient population.
• Gain experience working in the community alongside a professional in the same field.

Requirements

• Current student in an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (master’s or doctoral level).
• Enrolled at an academic institution that has an existing contract/affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt.
• Hold a current RN license (BSN) and have psychiatric nursing experience.

Qualifications

• Function as a Nurse Practitioner/DNP within the continuum of care, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
• Receive 1:1 supervision from an assigned licensed nurse practitioner or physician.
• Preceptorship is strictly in‑person; no telehealth component.

Pay

This is an unpaid preceptorship.

Schedule

Approximately 120‑180 hours per preceptorship, scheduled between January and April; start date is flexible.
