PM News Editor, Remote (Jewish News / Digital Journalism)

About the role

The oldest international English-language Jewish news service is hiring a PM News Editor to help run its newsroom during the afternoon and evening shift. The wire service is part of the largest and most diverse digital nonprofit Jewish media company in North America, which publishes six brands spanning news, culture, religion, food, parenting, and community journalism.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring breaking news and social media to identify and assign stories requiring immediate coverage
• Overseeing early-career and breaking news reporters
• Editing articles for accuracy, clarity, style, and legal considerations
• Writing and updating breaking news stories continuously as events develop
• Writing sharp, engaging headlines informed by SEO, AEO, and audience reach strategies
• Curating stories on the homepage, app, and newsletter throughout the afternoon and evening news cycle
• Producing fast alerts and social media posts
• Tracking audience analytics and adjusting coverage strategy based on reader interest
• Helping plan coverage for major scheduled events while remaining flexible for unexpected news
• Mentoring young reporters in breaking news coverage and providing constructive editorial feedback

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of newsroom or digital editing experience, including managerial experience
• Strong editing, writing, headlining, and fact-checking skills
• Excellent news judgment, understanding of analytics, and dedication to journalistic ethics
• Experience covering breaking news in a fast-paced digital environment
• Able to manage multiple stories simultaneously under tight deadlines
• Knowledge of Jewish history, culture, religious practice, and contemporary issues affecting Jewish communities
• Experience with live blogs and social media preferred
• Knowledge of the New York Jewish community preferred
• Hebrew language skills a plus
