Plumbing Plan Reviewer/Engineer Senior

About the role

The position exists to administer the Minnesota State Plumbing Code by performing complex engineering plan reviews for plumbing systems in all building types except single-family homes, two-family homes, townhomes, and multi-family homes with four or fewer dwellings. The incumbent applies licensed professional engineering judgment to determine compliance with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code, referenced standards, and the Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300 to protect public health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced technical analyses.
  • Resolve complex plumbing plans and specifications within established code provisions and division policies.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to less-experienced engineering professionals.
  • Contribute to improvements in internal processes, guidance materials, and stakeholder education that support effective plumbing code administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Holds a current Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license under the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design.
  • Experience designing, documenting and/or installing plumbing systems compliant with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code under the direct supervision of a Minnesota Licensed Engineer or Minnesota Licensed Master Plumber.
  • Knowledge of water system engineering, including operation and design.
  • Knowledge of plumbing systems and plumbing construction practices.
  • Ability to review construction drawings and specifications for relevance, accuracy, and completeness to determine compliance with statutes, rules and codes that are within the authority of the department.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Must hold a current Minnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license under the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).

Pay

  • $39.06 - $57.47 / hourly.
  • $81,557 - $119,997 / annually.

Schedule

  • Primary work location: 443 Lafayette Road N, St. Paul, MN.
  • Required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month.
  • Employees living more than 50 miles from the primary work location may be eligible for more than 50% telework with agency approvals.
