About the role

BR+A Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Plumbing and Fire Protection Designer/Engineer for our Raleigh, NC office. This role will be responsible for designing Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for a variety of projects and other tasks such as performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects, coordinating with other disciplines, overseeing deliverables to and from clients, and developing hydraulic calculations for systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for Healthcare, Higher Education, and Laboratory projects
  • Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
  • Coordinate with other disciplines
  • Oversight of deliverables to and from clients
  • Develop hydraulic calculations for systems
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • EIT license required
  • PE and CPD licenses preferred
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Plumbing and Fire Protection design

Qualifications

  • Experience designing Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for Healthcare, Higher Education, and Laboratory projects
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Familiar with specification writing
  • Good understanding of engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements
  • Able to think three-dimensionally
  • Thorough knowledge of CA plumbing code, model codes and NFPA
  • Knowledge of Fire Protection systems including wet, dry and specialty systems
  • Understanding of work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the work plan
  • Able to meet and work with clients, owners, and contractors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Taking ownership of assignments, working both independently and as part of the project team
  • A positive attitude, results-driven and team-oriented
  • Able to manage time to meet deadlines
