Plumbing and Fire Protection Designer
About the role
BR+A Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Plumbing and Fire Protection Designer/Engineer for our Raleigh, NC office. This role will be responsible for designing Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for a variety of projects and other tasks such as performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects, coordinating with other disciplines, overseeing deliverables to and from clients, and developing hydraulic calculations for systems.
Responsibilities
- Design Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for Healthcare, Higher Education, and Laboratory projects
- Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
- Coordinate with other disciplines
- Oversight of deliverables to and from clients
- Develop hydraulic calculations for systems
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology
- EIT license required
- PE and CPD licenses preferred
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in Plumbing and Fire Protection design
Qualifications
- Experience designing Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for Healthcare, Higher Education, and Laboratory projects
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
- Familiar with specification writing
- Good understanding of engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements
- Able to think three-dimensionally
- Thorough knowledge of CA plumbing code, model codes and NFPA
- Knowledge of Fire Protection systems including wet, dry and specialty systems
- Understanding of work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the work plan
- Able to meet and work with clients, owners, and contractors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Taking ownership of assignments, working both independently and as part of the project team
- A positive attitude, results-driven and team-oriented
- Able to manage time to meet deadlines
