About the Role

Eastern Washington University is seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for a Plumber/Pipefitter/Steamfitter position. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing water mains, storm sewers, septic tanks, sewage mains and laterals, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, gates, hydrants, water coolers, dishwashers, and associated equipment. The position also includes repairing fixtures, performing valve maintenance, cutting and threading pipe, testing backflow assemblies, and maintaining water mains, fixtures, sewer lines, valves, and septic tanks to determine maintenance, cleaning, or repair needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level plumbing, pipefitting, and steamfitting installation, service, and maintenance without direct supervision, adhering to all codes, regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Report discrepancies in code and safety procedures to supervision.
  • Assist other university shops, contractors, and vendors as requested.
  • Prepare plumbing shop projects, gather vendor information, and generate requests for materials and equipment.
  • Complete required shop and departmental paperwork, including service order cards, time sheets, work orders, leave requests, and incident/hazard reports.
  • Follow university and departmental procedures, including chain of command for information requests or conflict resolution.
  • Respond to work orders, radio dispatches, and emergency situations, reporting them to the work order center and supervision.
  • Represent the plumbing shop, department, and university professionally, including responding to emergency overtime.
  • Attend required training, including maintaining a current asbestos worker certification.
  • Pick up materials from vendors and provide input on shop performance and efficiency.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter, OR full journey status in a union, OR four years of applicable work experience.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, plans, and sketches; estimate materials and time needed for jobs; and use hand and power tools.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach supportive of diverse needs, including universal accessibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Water Distribution Manager Certificate of Competency and/or Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate of Competency issued by the Department of Health.
  • Backflow assembly tester certification.
  • Cross-connection control specialist certification.

  • Excellent customer service skills with a professional and courteous demeanor.

Pay

$72,576.00 - $82,068.00 annually. Starting salary within this range depends on education, experience, and skills.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, either 6:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. or 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
