About the role

The Plumber III is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in the facility. This role works in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure all specifications, legislation, and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any project. The Plumber III leads training for new associates, serves as a Subject Matter Expert to facilities stakeholders, and leads larger scale projects as assigned. This position is located at Henry Ford Main Hospital in Detroit, MI.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and components (60% of role):
  • Diagnose causes of problems and/or failures in water systems to identify equipment and/or system repair and/or replacement needs.
  • Install, maintain, and repair domestic water pumps, water piping lines, water filters, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair and maintain steam stations, valves, heating and condensation return stations, and sewer and storm drains.
  • Maintain the piping and supply of cylinder and bulk medical gas systems.
  • Prepare preventative maintenance schedules and produce monthly reports.
  • Develop procedures and conduct preventative maintenance and service inspections of backflow devices and cross-connection control awareness.
  • Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Identify and recommend long-term needs and strategies for plumbing systems and components, resulting in cost savings.
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for decision-making and compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
  • May serve as a dedicated service tech, providing plumbing services to facilities/buildings within a defined region, requiring travel to multiple sites.
  • May coordinate, maintain, and repair all energy management systems.
• Special Projects (40% of role):
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Lead training and department orientation for new associates.
  • Lead special projects as assigned.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for facilities stakeholders, including Plumbers I and II.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master Plumber License (required).
• 5 years of relevant experience (required).
• Active Driver’s License (required).
• Backflow preventer certification (preferred).
• Med Gas certification (preferred).
