About the role

The Plumber II is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in the facility. The Plumber II works in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any project. This position is located at Henry Ford Main Hospital in Detroit, MI.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and components (70% of role):
  • Diagnose cause of problems and/or failures in water systems to identify equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
  • Install, maintain and repair domestic water pumps, water piping lines, water filters and plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair and maintain steam stations, valves, heating and condensation return stations and sewer and storm drains.
  • Maintain the piping and supply of cylinder and bulk medical gas systems.
  • Prepare the preventative maintenance schedule and produce monthly reports.
  • Develop procedures and conduct preventative maintenance and service inspections of backflow devices and cross-connection control awareness.
  • Respond to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Identify and recommend long-term needs and strategies for plumbing systems and components, resulting in cost savings.
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle, tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
  • May coordinate, maintain and repair all energy management systems.
  • May travel to multiple sites to perform functions of the role.
  • May be required to coordinate, inspect, repair and maintain other systems as assigned.
• Special Projects (30% of role):
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Assist, participate in and/or lead special projects as assigned.
  • Provide additional support and training to facilities stakeholders, including Level I plumbers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Journeyman Plumber License (required).
• 3 years relevant experience (required).
• Active Driver’s License (required).
• Backflow preventer certification (preferred).
• Med Gas Certification (preferred).
