About the role
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with advanced expertise in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to join our team and support a newly established automation process area. In this key role, you will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of automated systems by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on PLCs, sensors, actuators, drives, and associated control systems. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and OEM partners to install, troubleshoot, and optimize automated machinery, contributing to the startup, commissioning, and ongoing performance of a highly automated production environment. This is an onsite position; relocation assistance is not available at this time.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC-based automation systems.
- Support the startup and commissioning of the new automation process area by collaborating with engineering and OEM vendors.
- Read and interpret PLC logic, wiring diagrams, and control schematics to diagnose system issues and restore functionality quickly.
- Implement and optimize control logic modifications, calibrate sensors, and adjust parameters to meet production requirements.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on all automation-related equipment to maximize uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Provide technical support for automated machinery, including robotic arms, conveyors, vision systems, and safety systems.
- Assist with documenting PLC programs, maintenance procedures, and equipment configurations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis (RCA), and equipment upgrades.
- Train and mentor junior technicians and production staff on automation troubleshooting and safe operating practices.
Requirements
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.
- PLC programming certification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in a maintenance technician role with a strong focus on PLC-controlled systems.
- Proven expertise in PLC troubleshooting, preferably with Allen-Bradley RSLogix/Studio5000 or similar platforms.
- Experience with automated manufacturing environments, including sensors, VFDs, HMIs, and industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, etc.).
- Familiarity with safety PLCs, machine safeguarding systems, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Experience supporting Industry 4.0/Smart Factory systems preferred.
- Familiarity with SCADA, MES, or Industrial IoT systems preferred.
- Exposure to robotics (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA) and motion control systems preferred.
