PLAY DIRECTOR

Go Girls! Oakland is seeking Play Directors for temporary full-time employment during our Go Girls! Camp season from June 3 – July 19, 2024.

Pay

Compensation is $30.00-$35.00 per hour, based on experience. Hours are approximately 40 per week per session.

Schedule

• Session #1: June 3-14
• Session #2: June 17-28
• Session #3: July 8-19

Applicants are not required to work all 3 sessions. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, with extended hours until 5:30pm on the final Friday of each session.

Training

Mandatory training days are the weekend of May 4-5, 2024. This paid training includes a stipend and meals. Led by veteran Go Girls! Teaching Artists and Program Leadership, you will learn the Go Girls! Camp methodology and develop skills beneficial for teaching, youth work, and advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Train with Go Girls! Oakland staff to learn our Go Girls! Camp Methodology
• Prepare curriculum and high-quality learning experiences according to the Go Girls! Methodology
• Lead 48 girls ages 5-10 through devising an original play incorporating camp themes, Go Girls! Culture Code, and Kidpower skills
• Lead 3 age-appropriate drama classes and one rehearsal daily to support confidence, collaboration, and acting techniques
• Script, stage, and rehearse the play
• Lead daily "Ensemble Group" lessons introducing the Go Girls! Culture Code
• Manage a group of up to 48 girls using positive discipline techniques and relational attachment (camp ratio is 8:1)
• Collaborate effectively with your team: Camp Mama, Music Specialist, Assistant Teachers, Expressive Artist, and middle school-aged interns from the Go Girls! Leadership Team (GGLT)
• Support children during community building, free play, snack, and lunch times to ensure safety and fun
• Facilitate "talk-it-outs" to help children manage conflicts peacefully
• Build and maintain positive relationships with collaborating partners throughout the summer

Requirements

• At least 3+ years of experience teaching art to young children ages 5-10
• Knowledge and respect for ensemble-based collaborative processes of creating original performance
• Knowledge and respect for devised theater making that is movement and ensemble-based
• Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Theater Education, Child Psychology, or Performance Studies
• Flexibility to multi-task and manage challenges in various situations
• Confidence and ability to project calm
• Impeccable social/emotional skills, including managing stress, using direct communication, and listening to others' needs
• A curious and reflective mindset, open to feedback and continuous improvement
• Strong boundaries to take care of yourself and ensure the safety of all children at camp
• Positive energy, modeling kindness and playfulness
