Platform Engineering Manager
About the role
We are seeking a Platform Engineering and Developer Portal Manager to lead and grow our Internal Developer Portal (IDP) as a critical product for engineering teams. This role involves defining strategy, roadmap, and adoption of a centralized service catalog and self-service capabilities that enhance developer productivity.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Product Management to define and execute the strategy for the Internal Developer Portal (IDP).
- Establish clear "Golden Paths" for engineering teams to streamline their development processes.
- Ensure the cloud platform tooling is intuitive, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Lead and grow a team of Platform Engineers, focusing on their coaching, technical excellence, and career development.
- Act as a key connector between platform engineering, architecture, security, and application teams.
Requirements
- Experience leading internal platforms or developer-facing products.
- A strong understanding of modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD, GitOps, and cloud-native platforms like Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with tools such as Backstage, Port, or Cortex.
- Experience managing and developing teams across multiple locations and time zones.
- Ability to build alignment and consensus across various departments.
- Experience establishing AI-assisted development as a standard engineering capability.
- Continuous learning attitude and willingness to adopt new technologies.
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in engineering roles, including 5+ years leading and developing engineering teams.
- Experience in infrastructure as code and automation (Terraform or equivalent).
- Knowledge of API and microservice design in distributed systems.
- Experience with DevOps and DevSecOps practices.
- Understanding of observability concepts including metrics, logs, traces, and open standards like OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling and developer workflows.
- Experience in technical documentation, including product requirements, high-level architecture, and detailed design artifacts.
Skills
- Strong understanding of modern software delivery practices.
- Experience with cloud platforms and container orchestration (AWS preferred).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation.
- Experience with API and microservice design in distributed systems.
- Experience with DevOps and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with observability concepts and CI/CD tooling.
- Experience with technical documentation and product requirements.

Pay
Charlotte Base Salary Range: $153,842-$246,147

Temporary positions in the United States are excluded from the above mentioned compensation and benefit plans.
