Platform Engineer -Message Queuing and Integration

About the role

The Platform Engineer at Costco Wholesale IT is responsible for translating high-level platform designs into detailed technical implementations. They collaborate with architects to enhance production deployments, manage platform operations, and ensure environment stability. This role involves developing and maintaining scalable frameworks for integrating internal and external APIs, conducting code reviews, and ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with delivery pods and architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability.
• Affirm technical components, translate high-level design into low-level technical design, and execute updates based on Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Manage the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching, and support.
• Lead and conduct code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level.
• Conduct regular platform checkups and report inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and/or provisioning groups to stand up the platform.
• Develop and instrument monitoring dashboards depicting platform health and performance.
• Develop and build scalable and generalized frameworks to support the integration of internal and third-party APIs.
• Analyze existing platform components to identify improvements to software development processes.
• Develop and implement Platform as a Service (PaaS) Solutions.
• Remediate platform issues and bottlenecks impacting software development activities.
• Participate in the creation of documentation and artifacts used to describe the mechanisms used for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Architects and technology team members to define development tasks and activities within technical user stories to support the implementation of Infrastructure as a Code solution.
• Perform coding tests to validate hardware design correctness, and create software regression tests to ensure its reliability.
• Plan and implement arrangements for Disaster Recovery and conduct related testing of recovery procedures.
• Deliver against business objectives by effectively managing and partnering with technology vendors.
• Conduct research and make recommendations on standards, products, and services.
• Test diagnostics (including) automated regression testing.
• Develop and execute integration testing plans, as needed.
• Authors and executes test cases related to supporting the implementation of platform development work.
• Maintain the catalog of services for the platform in collaboration with the Architects.
• Ensure application and infrastructure architectural solutions are stable, secure, and compliant with company standards and practices, as well as regulatory requirements.
• Implement and maintain system configurations and baselines to support secure application development software control best practices and standards.
• Implement service monitoring across all platforms to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems.
• Evaluate and document all operating systems according to required standards.
• Support the development and execution of test cases related to support the implementation of platform development work.

Requirements

• 3+ years’ Unix administration experience.
• 1+ years’ IBM ACE and IBM MQ experience.
• Knowledge of Linux, AIX, and POWER systems.
• Recommended Certificate management experience.
• Familiar with IBM MQ.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies.
• iSeries experience.
• Shell scripting experience.
• I.e. Ansible.
• Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay

Pay ranges from Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000 to Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, with bonus and restricted stock unit (RSU) eligibility.
