About the role

Vibrint is seeking a proactive Platform as a Service (PaaS) Engineer to join our team in support of the Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. The PaaS Engineer will assist the Program Management Office (PMO) in overseeing and supporting the design, deployment, and maintenance of the cloud infrastructure underpinning the GIS platform. This role emphasizes Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure repeatable, secure, and highly available deployments across both cloud and on-premise systems while prioritizing mission needs and performance requirements.

The PaaS Engineer monitors vendor activities related to deployment pipeline development, automated provisioning, and infrastructure maintenance. The role assists the Government Program Management Office (GPMO) in managing cloud and on-prem resources, including AWS, UDS, and Enterprise GIS components, to ensure the environment remains cost-optimized, resilient, and performant. This position supports Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline oversight, ensuring vendors maintain properly functioning build, test, and deployment workflows. The role also verifies that observability tooling—such as auto-scaling, load balancing, logging, monitoring, and alerting—has been properly configured.

Additionally, the Engineer advises the GPMO on vendor tool selection, licensing, and cost considerations to ensure effective resource utilization. Security responsibilities include reviewing vendor-implemented network security controls and ensuring compliance with enterprise cybersecurity standards. The role also provides oversight for container orchestration, ensuring the GIS PaaS platform can support microservices, containerized GIS servers, and managed geospatial workloads.

Key deliverables include assessments of vendor deployment scripts, validated CI/CD pipelines, system health dashboards, alerting rules, and security compliance reports, all contributing to a stable and mission-ready hosting environment for GIS subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure for the Enterprise GIS platform using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Oversee and support vendor activities related to deployment pipeline development, automated provisioning, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Manage cloud and on-premise resources, including AWS, UDS, and Enterprise GIS components, ensuring cost optimization, resilience, and performance.
  • Support Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline oversight, ensuring vendors maintain functional build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Verify proper configuration of observability tooling, including auto-scaling, load balancing, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Advise the GPMO on vendor tool selection, licensing, and cost considerations for effective resource utilization.
  • Review vendor-implemented network security controls and ensure compliance with enterprise cybersecurity standards.
  • Provide oversight for container orchestration to support microservices, containerized GIS servers, and managed geospatial workloads.
  • Deliver assessments of vendor deployment scripts, validated CI/CD pipelines, system health dashboards, alerting rules, and security compliance reports.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps engineering, or platform services engineering supporting enterprise-scale environments.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including networking, compute, storage, and managed container services.
  • Familiarity with Unified Data Systems (UDS), hybrid cloud deployments, and management of on-premise infrastructure components supporting GIS workloads.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management for distributed applications.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes and containerization.
  • Proficiency with system monitoring and observability stacks (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, ELK), auto-scaling, and load balancing.
  • Ability to evaluate vendor deployment artifacts, identify risks, and recommend improvements for reliability, repeatability, and security.
  • Active Top Secret clearance (TS/SCI) with the ability to obtain and maintain a CI Poly.

Qualifications

  • Enterprise-Level Cloud Platform Engineering Expertise: Demonstrated ability to design, oversee, and validate secure, automated cloud and hybrid deployments supporting mission-critical systems, with an emphasis on IaC and CI/CD automation.
  • Infrastructure Governance & Security Compliance: Experience ensuring vendor adherence to enterprise security standards, network configurations, and compliance requirements across classified and unclassified environments.
  • Containerization & Modernization Skills: Hands-on understanding of container orchestration, microservices patterns, and enabling containerized GIS or related workloads within PaaS environments.
  • Cross-Team & Vendor Collaboration: Proven ability to work closely with vendors, PMO/GPMO leadership, and mission stakeholders to ensure platform reliability, cost-efficiency, and operational readiness.

Skills

  • Experience supporting geospatial platforms or enterprise environments with complex data, analytics, or visualization components.
  • Familiarity with Esri Enterprise, OGC services, containerized GIS services, or microservices architectures.
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps, secure pipeline practices, and automated security scanning.
  • Cloud certification(s) such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Experience advising PMO/GPMO teams on cloud cost management, vendor tooling, and infrastructure optimization strategies.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with annual merit-based increases and discretionary bonus program.
  • 401(k) plan with company contribution.
  • 11 paid federal holidays and 160 hours of paid time off.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and short- & long-term disability insurance.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Generous professional development allowance.
