Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery Division Chief
Stanford University’s Department of Surgery invites applications for the position of Division Chief of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. This full-time role combines clinical, research, teaching, and administrative responsibilities within the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, a national leader in innovative care, impactful research, and premier education programs.
About the role
The Division Chief will dedicate 25% effort to leadership, overseeing growth and excellence in clinical care across Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children’s Health, and affiliated institutions (Palo Alto VAMC and Santa Clara Medical Center). The role includes mentoring faculty, developing research programs, and maintaining a strong personal clinical, teaching, and scholarly portfolio.
The position is available at the Associate or Full Professor level in either the University Medical Line (UML) or University Tenure Line (UTL). Faculty rank and line will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead and expand comprehensive Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery programs.
- Ensure clinical excellence at Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children’s Health, and affiliated sites.
- Mentor and support faculty development.
- Advance research initiatives and secure extramural funding.
- Teach and train medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful academic environment.
Requirements
- MD or MD/PhD degree.
- Board certification in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
- Demonstrated track record of leadership, mentorship, and clinical excellence.
- Strong history of scholarly activity and extramural funding (for UTL).
- Commitment to advancing clinical medicine through research and education (for UML).
Pay
Expected base pay range:
- Associate Professor: $488,000 – $554,000
- Professor: $577,000 – $719,000
This range reflects base pay only and does not include additional compensation components such as leadership incentives or departmental incentive programs. Final offers will consider experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market benchmarks.
