Under supervision, perform tasks

  • Prepare and apply plastering materials including Fireproofing, Soundproofing, and various types of Cement Stucco, E.I.F.S. Stucco, etc.
  • Apply plastering materials to walls, ceilings, piers, and columns using a hawk and trowel.
  • Patch plaster walls with limited damage.
  • Tape sheet rock and repair damaged sheet rock walls.
  • Set up and work on scaffolds.
  • Work according to plans and specifications.
  • Maintain records.
  • Supervise assigned personnel.

Additional Information

  • This position is open as a promotional opportunity and on a direct transfer (lateral) basis for NYCHA employees.
  • Applicants must have served at least one year at their current location and in their current title (if applicable).
  • Candidates must pass a practical exam involving the application of a hard troweled plaster finish on two walls and ceiling of a plastering booth.
  • The practical exam duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Failure to wear appropriate uniform, bring tools, finish exam, or complete the assigned booth may impact the exam score.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work.
  • One and a half years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work, plus sufficient full-time experience as a plasterer's apprentice or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational school, to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience.
  • Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice experience or approved trade or vocational high school training.
