Plaster Pattern Maker

About the role

Lays out, constructs, and repairs a variety of most complex plaster patterns, master models, mock-ups, checking fixtures, form blocks, or other plaster tooling from templates, engineering and loft information, and master tooling where trim lines, guidelines, and reference points are required.

Supplies any details that may be lacking or incomplete on blueprints, loft data, or engineering information. Coordinates and works with engineers, loftsmen, or other personnel; recommends and incorporates changes.

Determines the methods to be used in making the pattern and the number and kinds of templates needed, taking into consideration shrink equivalents, the design of the tool, the stages, and spring-back. Determines the method of sand molding and devises means for its accomplishment by split pattern, moldboard, core box, or ram-up core.

May make templates. May instruct, direct, and coordinate the work of several other employees. May be required to perform a variety of plastic tooling operations closely allied to plaster pattern-making operations.

Responsibilities

• Construct and repair complex plaster patterns, master models, mock-ups, checking fixtures, and form blocks using templates, engineering, and loft information.
• Supply missing or incomplete details from blueprints, loft data, or engineering information.
• Coordinate with engineers, loftsmen, and other personnel to recommend and incorporate changes.
• Determine methods for pattern-making, including templates, shrink equivalents, tool design, and sand molding techniques.
• Devise sand molding methods such as split patterns, moldboards, core boxes, or ram-up cores.
• Create templates as needed.
• Instruct, direct, and coordinate the work of other employees when required.
• Perform related plastic tooling operations.

Requirements

• Five (5) years of plaster modeling or plaster pattern-making experience.
• Proficiency with tools and equipment including band saws, circular saws, grinders, scrapers, scales, dividers, protractors, templates, soldering irons, transits, vernier height gages, and other precision instruments.
• This position requires use of information subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). U.S. persons (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) are eligible. Non-U.S. persons must meet eligibility requirements for access to export-restricted information.
