Plasma Center Specialist/Phlebotomist

About the role

The Plasma Center Specialist operates under the direct supervision of the Center Manager and the Medical/Laboratory Director, and may also receive instruction from the Quality Assurance Manager and on-site Physician Substitute. The role ensures donor suitability, product integrity, and donor health through compliance with FDA regulations, state regulations, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register donors
• Administer health history questionnaire to donors
• Assess and record donor weight and vitals
• Ensure facility and equipment are clean and maintained according to regulations
• Set up, operate, and maintain instruments used for donor qualification, donation, and processing/storage of donor samples and products
• Perform and document Quality Control and routine maintenance; report equipment issues
• Communicate delays and issues to center management, nurses, or other necessary parties
• Assess supply inventory; order and restock as needed
• Document activities and issues
• Answer donor inquiries
• Read, write, and understand English
• Quarantine and discard unacceptable samples and products
• Pack, label, and ship samples and products to meet suppliers’ requirements
• Store products in and maintain organization of large, walk-in, sub-zero freezer
• Prepare site and perform phlebotomy
• Attend to donor needs, including managing donor reactions
• Promote customer satisfaction through appropriate interaction and responsiveness
• Report all unsafe situations or conditions to supervisor
• Available to travel up to 25 miles to other facilities for training or staffing assistance
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (proof required)
• Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful
• Phlebotomy certification preferred

• Lift, pull, or tug up to 50 pounds to stock supplies or support donors
• Use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms
• Vision abilities including close vision
• Stand for extended intervals, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
• Operate equipment requiring repetitive motion and manual dexterity
• Read while standing or sitting in front of a computer for short periods
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eyewear, lab coats, and gloves
