Job Summary
The Plant Supplier Quality Engineer and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Leader at GE Appliances is responsible for driving quality improvements, managing supplier quality, and reducing costs in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
About the Role
This role oversees both purchased material quality and plant ESD process control and execution, ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Drive continuous improvement in quality by establishing and sustaining product quality through ESD training and certification, QMS, TPM, audits, calibration, risk management, and SPC implementation.
- Lead and support 1x1 problem solving for assigned areas, primarily ESD and Supplier Quality, and collaborate with factory teams and Central Supplier Quality Engineering to improve product quality.
- Respond to abnormalities in product and component testing and performance results, coordinate component audits, sorts, or holds, and provide guidance to the New Product Introduction (NPI) team regarding manufacturing process capabilities.
- Identify and execute projects to reduce Cost of Quality (COQ) in assigned areas, primarily where purchased parts are driving manufacturing waste and poor COQ.
- Optimize purchased part quality and characteristics to reduce manufacturing defects, non-value-added labor, EHS concerns, and production bottlenecks.
- Evaluate and implement new testing technologies to support new product innovations, while improving outgoing quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent, technical experience.
- 5+ years’ experience with manufacturing quality/quality improvement projects and/or process improvement in a fast-paced, high volume manufacturing environment or equivalent military experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) application or theory development.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical, cross-functional program deliverables and ability to drive decisions based on the overall benefit to the company.
- Good organizational, project management and presentation skills to interact with all levels within the organization and with suppliers and vendors.
- Strong communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team.
- Related experience in multi-stage material processing.
- Experience interpreting data to solve problems associated with high volume, short cycle manufacturing of consumer products.
- Experience in development or sustainment of data collection and measurement systems.
- Ability to work within large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members).
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
- Computer literate and skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Minitab and Outlook.
- Experience working with external suppliers.
- Excellent communication skills.
