About the Role
The Plant Superintendent is responsible for the production department of their assigned shift at Lear Montgomery Plant. This role involves coordinating all activities related to planning, directing, and overseeing the production process. You will analyze personnel and capital resources to meet production goals, reduce costs, and ensure products are produced on time while meeting all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) specifications.
Responsibilities
- Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the assembly of seats.
- Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records to determine production requirements and evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
- Confer with senior management to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
- Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
- Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Demonstrate equipment operations, work, and safety procedures to new employees or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
- Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure operators conform to production standards.
- Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems and complaints.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
- Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
- Develop specific production goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and meet customer requirements.
- Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring efficient use of materials, labor, and equipment to meet production targets.
- Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
- Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
- Set and monitor product standards, examining samples of raw products to ensure finished products meet prescribed quality.
- Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports to detect production problems.
- Monitor the production run to ensure it stays on schedule and correct any problems that may arise.
- Devise ways to make the production process more efficient.
- Recommend training programs or reorganization techniques for the manufacturing process.
- Serve as Emergency IT Backup and System Administrator in the absence of other IT personnel (if previously trained while acting as IT Specialist).
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure plant operations align with company goals, customer requirements, and financial targets.
- Drive operational excellence by monitoring KPIs such as safety, quality, cost, delivery, and employee engagement.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all shifts and departments.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Develop and execute succession planning and talent development strategies for future leadership roles.
- Serve as a key liaison with executive leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies, providing updates on plant performance.
- Oversee new product launches, equipment installations, and major process changes, ensuring seamless integration with existing operations.
- Ensure the plant consistently meets or exceeds budget, productivity, and customer satisfaction targets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and five years’ experience in a management role in the Automotive Industry and/or a combination of relevant working experience and education in a related field.
- Willingness to rotate shifts.
- Knowledge of ISO14001, OSHA, and IATF requirements and compliance.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of automotive plant functions such as maintenance, quality, production control, safety, operations, and materials.
- Knowledge of strategies such as product lifecycle management (PLM), just-in-time, and self-directed teams.
