Responsible to control and maintain auxiliary equipment
- Controls and maintains pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, and chlorinators
- Supervises the operation of generating units and associated equipment
Essential Functions
- Assists in the training and mentoring of less experienced team members
- Participates in control operations training to perform the duties of a Senior Plant Operator (control room)
- Maintains and repairs boiler and boiler auxiliaries, turbine/generator auxiliaries, fuel supply equipment and auxiliaries
- Performs general craft tasks, operates various industrial equipment, and uses power hand tools
- Reads and interprets drawings and prints
- Works with other craft and plant personnel as required
- Executes clearance procedures
- Follows all safety and environmental rules and regulations
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in a technical discipline and 1 year experience in a technical field OR High School Diploma/GED and 3 years experience in a technical field OR High School Diploma/GED and prior military service for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214 and 2 years experience in a technical field OR High School Diploma/GED and 1 Direct Plant experience at the same power plant and successful completion of Board Review
- A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a technical field is equivalent to 1 year of technical experience
- Experience must include 1 year experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing
Working Conditions
- Required to carry pager and/or cell phone while on call and responding to call outs, potentially including weekends and holidays
- May be required to work beyond normal 40-hour workweek
- Subject to operating personal computer for extended periods
- Requires occasional travel primarily via automobile (some overnight) to remote locations throughout the system to monitor operations equipment and activities
- Must be able to move about on foot and follow safety, emergency response procedures and regulations
- Must possess Operator Qualification modules within a specified time determined by organization upon job entry
- Must complete required Process Safety Management Training within a specified time determined by organization upon job entry
Physical Demands - Lifting and Other Weight Requirements
- Frequently: Sitting, Climbing, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Repetitive Motions, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Stooping, Reaching, Grasping, Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination
- Frequently:Lifting up to 50 lbs, Carrying up to 50 lbs
Special Safety Requirements
- Member is required to drive in order to perform their job duties. (Member is assigned a company vehicle and/or member must drive a company and/or personal vehicle to complete company business at least 50% of time.)
- The handling, packaging, processing, storage, disposal or transport of hazardous materials
- The operation of equipment, machinery or power tools
- Repairing, maintaining or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery or manufacturing process, the malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage
- Performing firefighting duties – Fire fighter duties does not include responding to incipient stage/coal fires
- The extraction, compression, processing, manufacturing, handling, packaging, storage, disposal, treatment or transport of potentially volatile, flammable, combustible materials, elements, chemicals or any other highly regulated component
- The operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including but not limited to, electric utilities, power generation or distribution
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lock out tag out (LOTO) and proficiency in all plant systems
- Demonstrated strong ability to comply with safety policies and seen as a leader in IIF (Incident and Injury Free)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Auxiliary plant, equipment, systems, and processes
- Demonstrated ability to acquire full understanding of plant operation via the Turbine Control HMI and/or Plant DCS
- Proficiently use SAP/PM including notifications and work order management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve plant problems effectively
- Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with company policies and operating procedures
- Demonstrated ability to understand plant systems/processes
- Demonstrated ability to use common purpose hand tools and other materials of various craft trades
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, following approved work methods and standard testing practices
- Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications
- Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions and evolving business needs
- Knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity working with mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, electric motors, air compressors, valves, welding, fabrication, construction, pipefitting, etc.)
- Demonstrated commitment to an IIF (Incident and Injury Free) culture
- Demonstrated proficiency in LOTO (Lock out tag out) procedures per guidelines
- Demonstrated capability to act as Senior Plant Operator (control room) under supervision or recognized as an official SME in multiple plant systems
- Demonstrated strong knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment
