About the Role
The Plant Operator performs general maintenance duties and support services for all non-clinical equipment and facilities across Singing River Health System. This role provides essential support to patients, guests, and staff.
- Plant Operator I-IV: Focus on maintenance and operational support.
- Plant Operator V: In addition to maintenance duties, responsible for training other Plant Operators.
Note: Responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair non-clinical equipment and facilities, including electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Ensure compliance with Life Safety Code standards.
- Provide support services to patients, guests, and staff.
- Train and mentor other Plant Operators (Plant Operator V only).
- Operate and maintain hand tools, gauges, and measuring equipment.
- Travel throughout the SRHS service area as required.
- Complete online SRHS safety modules.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications: Preferred for electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers.
- Experience:
- Plant Operator I: 0-2 years in commercial/industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing, or Life Safety Code.
- Plant Operator II: 2-4 years (must have been a Plant Operator I for at least 2 years).
- Plant Operator III: 4-6 years (must have been a Plant Operator II for at least 3 years).
- Plant Operator IV: 6+ years (must have been a Plant Operator III for at least 3 years).
- Plant Operator V: 6+ years, including at least 1 year as a Plant Operator IV.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation.
- Proficiency in using computers and office technology (e.g., telephone, fax).
- Computer Skills:
- Plant Operator I: Basic computer skills.
- Plant Operator II-V: Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, turning, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and use of physical motions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
- Extended periods of standing and walking without undue fatigue.
- Exposure to environmental conditions (e.g., noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust).
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.
- Normal hearing (with or without correction) to perceive sounds at speaking levels.
- Visual acuity (with or without correction) for analysis, inspection, measurement, color identification, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

- Keen assessment and decision-making abilities.
- Superior communication skills (verbal and written) for in-person and telephone interactions.
- Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and multitask in complex situations.
- Strong attention to detail.

- Rotating shifts as scheduled or requested by management.
