About the role
The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and processes to support production goals while maintaining product quality and operational standards. This role performs equipment monitoring, inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and general plant support activities while promoting a strong safety culture and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors
- Operate, monitor, inspect, and perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient production
- Identify, report, and assist in troubleshooting equipment deficiencies, operational concerns, and maintenance issues, including minor repairs as directed
- Perform general labor, housekeeping, and other duties as needed to support plant operations
- Maintain accurate production, maintenance, and operational records
- Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work collaboratively with team members and support a culture of accountability, respect, and operational excellence
- Travel to and work at other company locations as needed
- Work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred; technical training, trade school education, or industry certifications are a plus
- Experience in aggregate, asphalt, ready-mix, manufacturing, industrial, or related operations preferred
- Valid state driver's license required
- Ability to safely perform welding and cutting using oxygen-acetylene equipment
- Ability to operate mobile equipment, including front-end loaders and skid steer loaders
- Basic mechanical, electrical, and equipment troubleshooting skills; knowledge of industrial pumps, motors, conveyors, and related equipment preferred
- Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculations, and use Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures and work in environments with noise, dust, vibration, moving equipment, and varying weather conditions
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Pay
$30.20–$32.20 per hour (per Union contract)
