About the role
The Plant Manager at Mennel Milling Company is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the entire facility, ensuring high-quality and legal finished products. This role plays a crucial part in sustaining Mennel's legacy of excellence since 1886 and supporting food safety initiatives.
Primary Work Shift
Works shift as assigned and overtime as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations, including GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, and sanitation guidelines.
- Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit-ready condition.
- Ensure personnel safety, product quality, food safety, operational performance, environmental, health, and safety compliance, as well as local, state, and federal standards.
- Use the Corporate Mission, Quality, and Safety Statements as guiding principles.
- Direct and coordinate plant operations according to established company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe manufacturing facility.
- Select and train plant supervisory and administrative staff.
- Build a strong culture for the facility and exhibit excellent leadership skills.
- Set a clear vision for the plant and employees, develop a plan to achieve this vision, establish clear and measurable expectations for employees, enable team members to complete their jobs to the best of their ability, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and engage others in problem-solving.
- Act as a resource for team members.
- Understand the business and know how inputs and outputs affect the end results.
- Manage and develop supervisory staff, including setting realistic, yet stretch, goals.
- Manage grain quality, document control, and the Food Safety team within the plant.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Milling Science or related food manufacturing or operations field and/or equivalent work experience is required.
- 6-10 years of progressive supervisory experience in the flour milling industry, or in another food manufacturing field is preferred.
- Ability to pass a Respirator Fit Test and work with a respirator.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Excellent critical thinking skills.
- Excellent technical writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
- Solid communication skills and ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
