Plant Maintenance Engineer

Location: Shakopee
Full-time, unlimited (permanent) position
Day shift: 6:30 am – 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday

About the role

Join the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Plant Maintenance Engineer at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) – Shakopee. This role focuses on maintaining critical infrastructure to support the well-being of all Minnesotans.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled repairs on HVAC, power equipment, refrigeration, and food service systems.
• Manage the energy management system and execute quarterly preventive maintenance tasks.
• Maintain precise unit logs and mechanical room records for all assigned buildings.
• Assist subcontractors and other trades as needed; adapt to and learn new facility systems.

Requirements

• Current licensure in Minnesota as a First Class C Boiler Operator or higher.
• Applicants with current licensure in Minnesota as a Second Class C Boiler Operator may be considered for a provisional appointment until obtaining licensure as a First Class C Boiler Operator.

Physical Requirements

• Completion of pre-placement physical components may be required, including tuberculosis screening, commercial driver’s license (CDL) drug test, and/or respirator clearance.
• The selected finalist may be required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position.

Additional Requirements

• Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check, including successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
• Employment history, reference checks, and review of job performance and discipline records may be conducted.
• New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
• The Minnesota Department of Corrections does not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Pay

$34.16 – $39.66 per hour
$71,326 – $82,810 annually
