Plant Maintenance Electrician

Salary Range: $31.2799 - $39.8747 per hour (Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale; starting salary dependent on education, experience, and training).

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (may vary based on operational needs).

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled electrical, electronic, automation, and process-control systems installation, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repair, and replacement for the City’s water and wastewater facilities.
• Plans work projects; prepares time and material estimates; ensures adequate supplies and inventory for electrical/instrumentation activities.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs SCADA, PLC, and other automation components.
• Performs electrical calibrations on systems and instrumentation.
• Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs control systems, machinery, branch circuits, electrical distribution systems, communications, and instrumentation in water and wastewater systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance on generator systems, electrical switchgear, electric actuators, and other equipment.
• Safely operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs medium-voltage switchgear and motor drives (4,160 V – 12,500 V).
• Installs, maintains, and repairs radio/telephone communication systems, cameras, security systems, and related devices.
• Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs wireless, copper, and fiber-optic network media and equipment.
• Operates hand tools, diagnostic tools, calibration equipment, safety gear, vehicles, and other specialized equipment.
• May train and oversee electrical maintenance personnel as Lead Worker.
• Uses automated maintenance management systems for scheduling and tracking.
• Prepares, updates, and modifies electrical schematics and drawings.
• Applies current electrical code requirements to all work.
• Employs safe work practices, identifies hazards, and uses appropriate PPE.
• Revises, maintains, and documents PLC, field-instrument, and data-acquisition programs.
• Coordinates with operational staff and management on electrical issues affecting water/wastewater processes.
• Monitors buildings and grounds for safety hazards and notifies proper personnel.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of formal training beyond high school.
• Minimum six years of related work experience in electrical and electronic diagnostics, installation, repair, and maintenance.
• Valid Montana driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
• State-issued journey-level electrician’s license or journey-level certification in instrumentation/industrial electronics (ISCET, ISA, ETA International, or equivalent).
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and federal/state criminal background check.
• Ability to wear an air-purifying respirator when required.
