About the role
The Krusteaz Company is seeking a Plant EHS Manager to join our team. The EHS Manager position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining all safety and health maintenance programs and policies to minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards.
Responsibilities
- Designs, implements, and maintains all safety and health maintenance programs and policies to minimize and eliminate safety risks and occupational hazards associated with work practices.
- Maintains environmental records and reporting.
- Analyzes and evaluates current safety programs, policies, and practices to ensure they meet all local, state, and national regulatory requirements, providing timely monitoring and reports as required.
- Establishes standards and methods of measuring environmental, health, and safety performance.
- Assesses training needs, develops, and administers training related to safety and occupational health to ensure all employees understand their environmental, health, and safety responsibilities and perform work in a safe and legal manner.
- Performs periodic safety inspections and compliance audits; recognizes, eliminates, and controls occupational health hazards.
- Establishes and maintains effective accident and incident reporting system for employees.
- Investigates accidents and incidents to determine root cause and recommends changes to work practices or equipment to minimize or eliminate future safety risks.
- Establishes and maintains plant records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications.
- Ensures timely response and completion of recognized hazards, unsafe conditions and practices, and regular audit and inspection findings.
- Conducts evaluations of exposure to noise, particles, gases, fumes etc., and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
- Works with outside safety and/or environmental organizations to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Serves as the primary contact responsible for assisting with environmental, safety and occupational health audits by these organizations.
- Prepares environmental, safety and compliance reports as required by management and outside organizations, including observations, analysis, and recommendations for correction.
- Ensures continuous improvements for each safety element are ongoing through assigned safety sponsors.
- Ensures multi-layered risk predictions, behavior observations, and safety communications are frequent and effective.
Requirements
- Maintains current knowledge of safety and environmental issues and opportunities within manufacturing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of EHS and OSHA laws and regulations.
- Strong ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and/or environmental concerns.
- Proficient in Word for Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access applications essential.
- Excellent project management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proactive, excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and operate in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrates professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader by influencing all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
- Provides clear expectations, manages accountability, gains commitment, takes responsibility for activities, is approachable, openly supports organizational objectives and promotes safety and environmental compliance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; writes clearly, speaks persuasively, and facilitates groups effectively.
- Systematic problem solver proficient with root cause analysis who can implement effective solutions.
- Decisive and competent using sound judgment based on standard practices.
- Member of Site Planning Team, collaborating on and supporting tactical and strategic issues that affect the entirety of plant operations.
- Partners with other Safety/EHS Managers to ensure consistency between sites.
Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Risk Management Safety, or Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ progressive work experience in safety management; manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- This position requires working in both manufacturing and office environments.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone along with reaching.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Moderate noise, ability to work in a confined area, and ability to sit at a computer for an extended period of time are also included.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work in a dynamic environment.
- You may also be on your feet for several hours a day and may be exposed to a variety of physical demands that require you to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, exert energy, bend, twist and squat and use tools and equipment in an indoor production environment.
- Environment that has a high level of food dust and limited climate control while wearing PPE.
