Plans Examiner II, III - Plumbing/Mechanical / Development Services / Building #9350
About the role
The City of Cape Coral is seeking an experienced Plans Examiner II or III to join our team. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, five years of relevant construction industry experience, and a valid Florida driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Reviews residential, commercial, and miscellaneous construction and project plans for the Department of Community Development.
- Supports Building or Development Services and maintains necessary certifications according to division of assignment.
- Ensures compliance with established building, fire, and zoning codes and regulations.
- Possesses a broad background in general construction practices, including knowledge of inspecting structures, reviewing plans, and interpreting various forms of site documentation.
- Reviews and approves/denies various permits and accurately records all approved permits.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Five (5) years of experience in construction industry design, plan review, and inspection field duties
- Valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion
- One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and one (1) Plans Examiner or Building Inspector license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline the area of which is determined by business need
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience actively performing plumbing and/or mechanical inspections and/or plan review services for a local jurisdiction, private provider, or similar code enforcement entity preferred
- Dual certification in both the plumbing and mechanical disciplines preferred
Qualifications
- Current State of Florida Mechanical Inspector, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Inspector, or Plumbing Plans Examiner certification; or equivalent ICC certification with the ability to obtain Florida certification through reciprocity preferred
Skills
Strong knowledge of construction practices, broad background in general construction, and ability to interpret various forms of site documentation.

Plans Examiner II: $67,308.80 Min - $105,372.80 Max
Plans Examiner III: $70,699.20 Min - $110,635.20 Max
