About the role

The City of Greenacres seeks a qualified individual to perform technical work in plan and specification review to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code, City ordinances, and related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews permit applications, site plans, construction plans, and relevant documentation for compliance with the applicable provisions of the Florida Building Code, the City of Greenacres codes, and related regulations.
  • Inspects work according to approved plans, equipment, and components for conformance with laws and ordinances, and technical conformance with local, state and federal codes/ordinances for model standard building codes; makes recommendations for local requirements.
  • Sets up and operates inspection equipment and instruments to measure and inspect building components, systems, and structures.
  • Ensures that the contractor or authorized representative has secured applicable permits prior to making inspections.
  • Interacts with the general public regarding inspection procedures and requirements.
  • Prepares reports, inputs data entry of inspections, notes, completion dates, stop work orders and maintains records of work performed.
  • Issues stop work orders; recommends methods, materials, equipment, and alterations to assist in compliance with accepted standards.
  • Stays informed of code changes affecting building system installations.
  • Appears before the Special Magistrate to present testimony and evidence pertaining to violations, as applicable.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of building codes and regulations governing the construction industry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school, or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must submit to a post-offer physical examination. The offer of employment will be contingent on the results of testing and/or examinations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three (3) professional/personal references must be provided.

Skills

  • Building construction methods and practices.
  • Building plans, blueprints and specifications.
  • Municipal ordinances, policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Florida Statutes Chapter 162.
  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment.
  • Computer software including internet, licensing and certification record keeping.
  • Customer service practices and procedures.
  • Business English, spelling, grammar and arithmetic.
  • Codes and regulations governing the construction industry.

Benefits

The City of Greenacres provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes city-paid health, dental, vision and life insurance, in addition to retirement plan(s), paid vacation, sick leave, thirteen (13) paid holidays and tuition reimbursement.

Pay

Salary range: $45,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
