Planning Director
About the role
The Town of Mocksville is seeking a collaborative, forward-thinking Planning Director to lead planning and zoning initiatives while guiding responsible growth and development. Supported by a newly updated Comprehensive Plan and Downtown Master Plan, the Planning Director will play a key role in translating the Town’s long-term vision into action with the work to create a new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Town Manager will work hand in hand with the Planning Director to implement the Town’s planning initiatives and long-term vision. From managing development review and zoning administration to advancing strategic planning initiatives, this position offers the chance to influence the future of a dynamic small town.

Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of activities related to planning, zoning, supervision of code enforcement, and other related tasks.
- Provide guidance for the orderly growth and development of the Town.
- Conduct studies, enforce zoning and related codes, plan and design projects, and perform economic and demographic analysis.
- Design the long-range planning program for appropriate land use within the growing Town.
- Coordinate with local, state, federal agencies, and other groups for projects, programs, and contracts related to growth and development.
- Maintain extensive public contact and coordination with other departments, Council, boards, and the public.
- Manage and administer grants as directed by the Town Council and/or Town Manager.
- Exercise extensive judgment and initiative in conducting research projects, compiling reports, and making presentations and recommendations for various programs and functions of the Town.
- Demonstrate considerable tact and courtesy in public contact functions.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in planning, public administration, or related field.
- Considerable professional experience in municipal administration and planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Master's Degree and AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification is a plus.
Skills
- Mid-level experience (4-8 years) in planning or related field.
- AICP certification is desirable.
- Specialty in Land Use and Development Regulation and Zoning.
Pay
$65,804.32 - $105,286.92
