About the Role

The Chambers Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is the 5th largest wastewater treatment plant in the state, serving Pierce County with state-of-the-art and complex infrastructure. In this role, you will oversee all maintenance activities, including general maintenance, modifications for expansion, contracts, and maintenance planning. Responsibilities span electrical, mechanical, chemical, biological, and other industrial areas of the plant, including advanced membrane bioreactors (MBR), public water systems, pump stations, residential grinder pump stations, conveyance pipes, concrete structures, and facilities across three large campuses in Pierce County. Your work will ensure reliable wastewater treatment with a focus on water quality for the Puget Sound.

Planning and Public Works (PPW) stewards a healthy and vibrant community by collaboratively planning and investing in people, infrastructure, systems, and policies. With over 800 team members, PPW delivers essential services such as road and levee systems, sewer systems, airports, ferries, building permits, environmental review, sustainability, community planning, and code enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the annual maintenance program for major areas of a Road, Utility, or other division’s program based on asset management systems.
  • Oversee subordinate supervisors responsible for maintenance crews engaged in a wide variety of tasks.
  • Assign, plan, schedule, inspect, and evaluate work of subordinates; maintain work and personnel records.
  • Train new employees; enforce personnel rules; approve or deny use of sick leave, vacation leave, overtime, and compensatory time; initiate disciplinary action; assist with resolution of sensitive labor relations issues.
  • Prepare, monitor, and adjust emergency response plans.
  • Analyze operating procedures and devise efficient methods of accomplishing work.
  • Record work accomplished, fuel consumed, equipment mileage, and accidents.
  • Develop, adjust, and monitor plans, budgets, and schedules for anticipated work and equipment; authorize purchases within limits of authority; may monitor or control budget for assigned program.
  • Meet with the public, public agencies, or community organizations to promote or maintain favorable public relations.
  • Ensure staff compliance with applicable safety rules and regulations; review injury reports and recommend corrective actions; inspect work zones and facilities for safety compliance; monitor injury records for trends and recommend corrective actions; conduct periodic crew safety and training meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to coordinate County-wide programs, establish program priorities, and evaluate specific program requirements.

Requirements

  • Six years of progressively responsible work experience related to infrastructure maintenance, including 2 years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Related vocational training or education may substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
