PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

About the Role

Performs a variety of routine and complex technical work in current and long-range planning for the Village, including economic development, land use, zoning regulations, building permit review, and development review. This position oversees the Operations Division, including customer service, records management, and policy development, and supervises clerical staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide information on land use and zoning applications, ordinances, codes, plans, and related planning programs to architects, engineers, developers, contractors, owners, community groups, and interested persons.
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission by attending meetings and presenting materials for recommendation to the Village Board.
• Assist in coordinating and completing the 2026 Imagine Together Comprehensive Plan with the Village’s consultants.
• Guide implementation of the Comprehensive Plan post-adoption to ensure long-term development goals and visions are met.
• Lead and develop economic development initiatives, including business retention and recruitment, reporting milestones to leadership, Tax Increment Financing maintenance, soliciting business opportunities, and utilizing data management programs to attract new business.
• Become proficient in new permitting software to assist team members and increase department efficiency.
• Assist in communicating official plans, programs, policies, and procedures to staff and the general public.
• Review applications for annexation, zoning, subdivision, and land development for conformity with good planning principles and compliance with local ordinances.
• Evaluate zoning and building permit applications for compliance with local codes and ordinances, including zoning regulations, landscape requirements, and lighting regulations.
• Serve as the liaison to the Chamber of Commerce by attending meetings as a Village representative and providing updates on current events and activities.
