The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is seeking a Planning Analyst (SP&A) (5154) to join our team. Specific Responsibilities
- Supports SEPTA-led planning initiatives and transportation studies, including the Long-Range Plan, Comprehensive Bus Network Redesign, Trolley Modernization Program, and Cycle-Transit Plan.
- Completes analysis, research, and data collection for station area planning efforts, focusing on multi-modal access and transit-oriented development.
- Responds to departmental, public, and government agency inquiries with pertinent capital and long-range planning information.
- Evaluates plans and projects of other transportation agencies and planning commissions to assess their potential impact on SEPTA’s system.
- Assists with meeting coordination, planning, and policy development with Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, PennDOT, City of Philadelphia, and other city agencies, county planning commissions, and transportation management agencies.
- Assists consultants in developing planning documentation.
- Conducts policy research and technical analysis.
- Prepares written communications, staff reports, and informational memos.
- Creates maps and other graphical representations of planning analysis, principles, and findings.
- Collects, analyzes, and maintains data for departmental, Authority, and external stakeholder use.
- Visits various field locations.
- Adheres to safety and security policies and procedures, reporting any safety concerns, compromises, or hazards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban, Regional, or Transportation Planning, Geography, Business, or Public Administration or related field required.
- Proficiency in software applications for transportation analysis and communications, such as ArcGIS or related GIS software, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel required.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience and understanding of transportation, urban, and regional planning, land use planning, public outreach, and community planning preferred.
- Master’s degree in Transportation Planning, City and Regional Planning, or other closely related field preferred.
- Experience with or knowledge of technical research methods and analysis preferred.
- Knowledge of SEPTA service area, functions, and responsibilities, regional planning activities, and techniques used in the development of general transportation plans preferred.
