Planner - Transportation

About the role

As a Planner – Transportation you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently routing North America (NA) domestic freight into and out of Wesco facilities using our Transportation Management System (TMS) platforms. You will work in a fast‑paced environment as part of the NA transportation team, collaborating with operations, buyers, vendors, and carriers (TL, LTL, parcel, ocean) to drive continuous improvement, improve service, and reduce costs. The role also includes improving actual‑to‑budget expenses, general reporting, maintaining relationships, and holding carriers accountable for both service and cost.

Responsibilities

• Daily load planning, optimization, routing, consolidation, and reporting of all transportation modes (TL, LTL, parcel, etc.) within Wesco Distribution Inc.’s NA transportation activities.
• Monitor and troubleshoot outbound and inbound shipments, offering solutions to ensure timely delivery.
• Negotiate spot freight rates and dispatch out‑of‑network truck shipments.
• Manage carrier partners to ensure daily execution of all movements, review performance, and develop supply‑chain improvements based on business priorities.
• Serve as a key operational contact for warehousing sites and carrier partners.
• Utilize technology, analytics, and creative thinking to optimize routing, planning, and consolidation of freight in a dynamic supply‑and‑demand environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects and supplier/vendor presentations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain (required).
• 1 year required, 3 years preferred experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate across all organizational levels.
• Excellent customer‑service skills for internal and external stakeholders.
• Independent decision‑making with the ability to recommend viable solutions.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
• Experience with Blue Yonder, Mercury Gate, or similar TMS (desirable).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); transportation‑specific software preferred.
• Proven problem‑solving and decision‑making skills with a sense of urgency.
• Strong interpersonal skills; self‑motivated and able to work well with multiple cross‑functional teams.
• Ability to lead, influence, and collaborate with peers.
• 0‑3+ years of transportation, analytics, or supply‑chain experience.

Schedule

Monday‑Friday, 9:00 am‑6:00 pm ET or 10:00 am‑7:00 pm ET, to best support business needs.

Pay

Annual salary range: $58,775 – $94,040. Compensation may vary based on geographic location, education, experience, qualifications, skills, shift, or collective bargaining agreements. Eligible positions may include participation in a bonus or sales‑incentive plan, and certain sales roles may have a commission structure.
