About the role
Labor supervisory work with responsibility for supervising the work of a crew engaged in maintenance and construction activities related to water distribution and sewage collection systems.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and participates in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers, manholes, water lines, sewage pump stations, and water wells.
- Directs crew in taking care of complaints relative to water, sewer systems, and related facilities.
- Schedules and coordinates materials, personnel, and equipment to complete assigned projects.
- Participates in the work of assigned crew.
- Performs the more skilled tasks, using specialized equipment and power tools.
- Instructs and trains personnel in the use of specialized equipment.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, climb, and walk frequently.
- Ability to manipulate tools and repair parts in a complex pattern of movement.
- Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and construction activities related to water distribution or sewage collection systems, including some supervisory experience.
- A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
- Requires a Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B, with air brakes.
Skills
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and sewage collection systems.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and standard safety precautions that relate to construction and maintenance work.
- Ability to effectively plan, direct, and supervise a crew performing maintenance and construction work.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Ability to prepare written reports and keep records.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read for comprehension.
