Planner III
The Town of Johnstown, Colorado—a community of approximately 22,000 located 30 minutes north of the Denver Metro area—is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the state. With a mix of small-town charm, ongoing development, and strong oil and gas interests, the Planning Department faces dynamic challenges, including implementing a new Comprehensive Plan (2021), managing rapid growth, and modernizing processes.
About the role
As a Planner III, you’ll perform a wide range of municipal planning and project management functions, including land use planning, code updates, development process administration, staff report preparation, and presentations. This high-energy, high-production role also involves mentoring junior planners and handling ancillary land use and development tasks.
Responsibilities
- Conduct land use planning and research
- Update and innovate municipal codes and processes
- Manage development projects from review to approval
- Mentor and support junior planning staff
- Prepare staff reports, supplemental materials, and presentations
- Engage in ancillary land use and development functions
Requirements
- Minimum of four years of municipal planning experience or equivalent consulting work in land use/site planning
- AICP certification
- Master’s degree in planning or a related field
- Experience with development project review

Pay
Expected starting salary: $90,156–$108,187, dependent on qualifications.
