About the role
Performs professional and technical work in current planning, long-range planning, neighborhood planning, transportation planning, demographics, land use analysis, urban design, historic preservation, economic development, and related areas. This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Research, review, analyze, and coordinate rezone, annexation, general plan, design review, conditional use permit, variance, and other planning applications and related development requests.
- Review applications for compliance with the Town’s General Plan, Development Code, and other regulations and guidelines.
- Log and transmit new applications and submittals; organize and maintain hard and digital files.
- Coordinate with and act as a liaison for task forces and study groups; gather public comments and input on planning and development issues.
- Prepare reports and make presentations to Boards, the public, and other groups.
- Prepare Council Action reports, ordinances, and resolutions under general supervision.
- Evaluate and assist with recommended changes to zoning ordinances.
- Assist with enforcement of development codes and ordinances.
- Provide information and technical assistance on project reviews, permit and impact fees, departmental procedures, compliance issues, the Town General Plan, and specific area plans.
- Answer inquiries from the public regarding development, zoning projects, and current Town codes by telephone and in person.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a planning-related field and one (1) year of experience in a municipal planning department or similar capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.

- Ability to perform simple math calculations including decimals, percentages, principles of fractions, and interpreting graphs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and internet use.
- Preferred: Knowledge of Building Permitting and Mapping (GIS) software and PowerPoint.
