About the role
As a Community Organizer, you will play a key role in advancing Planned Parenthood South Atlantic’s (PPSAT) mission by building grassroots power and mobilizing supporters throughout Virginia, with a focus on the Charlottesville and Roanoke communities. You’ll cultivate meaningful relationships with volunteers, community leaders, and partner organizations to grow PPSAT’s base of support and drive advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement organizing strategies to engage and mobilize supporters in Charlottesville, Roanoke, and surrounding communities.
- Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, community leaders, and partner organizations to expand PPSAT’s network of advocates.
- Plan and execute events, actions, and campaigns to advance PPSAT’s policy and advocacy goals.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers to take leadership roles in organizing efforts.
- Collaborate with PPSAT staff and coalition partners to coordinate advocacy initiatives and amplify community voices.
- Track and report on organizing progress, including volunteer engagement, event attendance, and campaign outcomes.
- Represent PPSAT at community meetings, coalitions, and public forums to promote reproductive health, rights, and justice.
Requirements
- Commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and values, including reproductive health, rights, and justice.
- 1–2 years of experience in community organizing, advocacy, or grassroots mobilization, preferably in a progressive or nonprofit setting.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect with diverse communities.
- Experience planning and executing events, actions, or campaigns.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events and organizing activities.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within Virginia.
