Planer Set Up

About the role

This role is for a Planer Set Up position at Weyerhaeuser's lumber manufacturing facility in McComb, MS. The position requires precision maintenance skills and operates under formal safety procedures.

Key Functions

• Work with equipment and materials requiring familiarity with safety procedures
• Self-starter capable of working independently
• Set up Planer within exact alignment tolerances to maximize quality and production
• Understand and make adjustments to improve Planer machine quality and feeding
• Effectively troubleshoot quality and performance issues with the Planer machine
• Communicate with Value Techs, Maintenance, Leadership, and other operators
• Feed rough, dry lumber into the Planer in an unbroken stream
• Assist in monitoring lumber feeding and assist as necessary
• Respond to quality requests, adjust planer and machinery, and maximize quality and production
• Turn lumber to ensure maximum grade recovery and inspect for foreign objects
• Make minor repairs to machinery and maintain equipment at a high level

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED required
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating as Planer Set up preferred
• Familiarity with hand tools and ability to use them for changing knives, servicing the machine, changing parts, etc.
• Able to understand and execute alignment principles
• Able to use and understand calipers
• Able to learn and understand basic computer operation
• Experience in a lumber mill is a plus
• A sense of urgency in maximizing production and minimizing downtime
• Ability to work closely with supervisors and others; good communication skills; positive attitude
• Maintain a clean work station, exhibit good performance, safety, and attendance records
• Willingness to work any shift, overtime, weekends, and rotate between jobs as necessary
