Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the timer system and placing horses in correct order with the international sound system
  • Work with stewards to place horses
  • Comply with all requirements and requests of the New Mexico Racing Commission
  • Assist as requested in other projects or needs for operations at Zia Park

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a similar position or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must meet licensing requirements of the New Mexico Racing Commission
  • Must adhere to all local, state, and federal standards, including OSHA requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to perform duties in all weather conditions

Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English (e.g., safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals)
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish is an asset
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
  • Must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel, and balance in varying work areas, including confined spaces

Work Environment

  • Moderate noise level
  • Exposure to an environment containing unrestricted secondhand tobacco smoke

Initial placement within the salary range is based on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
