PK Paraprofessional (Sp Ed)

About the role

The PK Paraprofessional (Sp Ed) position at Delaware Elementary assists in small groups and individual student instruction and supervision. This role contributes to the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of children and youth under the supervision of teachers or other licensed personnel.

Responsibilities

• Assists with small groups and/or individual student instruction and supervision.
• Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment in various school settings.
• Operates standard school equipment and completes clerical tasks as assigned.
• Reads and comprehends at the student's grade level or above.
• Communicates effectively with all staff.
• Maintains confidentiality and student privacy.
• Participates in home visits and prepares, serves, and cleans up meals as needed.
• Completes annual Bloodborne Pathogens training.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Paraeducator Certificate from the Iowa Department of Education.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student needs.
• Successful completion of physical, criminal background, and child abuse registry checks.
• Experience working in an educational setting.
• Ability to obtain required training, including medication administration, first aid, and crisis prevention training.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience with school age children.
