Job Summary

PennLive is seeking a High School Sports Reporter to cover WPIAL athletics. The role involves creating compelling written stories and engaging video content.

Responsibilities

  • Balancing daily assignments with high-interest content such as top performers lists, rankings, and audience-driven features
  • Producing engaging video for mobile and social platforms
  • Shooting, editing, and publishing video to complement written coverage
  • Meeting with sources and covering games and events
  • Working independently under deadline pressure and prioritizing tasks
  • Building, maintaining, and engaging an active audience
  • Breaking news and maintaining a strong news judgment
  • Writing clean, conversational content that keeps readers engaged
  • Completing night, weekend, and travel assignments

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of journalism experience with reporting and writing skills, preferably covering high school and/or other sports
  • Proven ability to source, report, and break news
  • Sharp writing skills and a solid grasp of digital storytelling

Qualifications

  • A passion for Pittsburgh high school sports and a desire to own the WPIAL beat

Benefits

The base salary range is $50,000 - $55,000 per year. This position requires reliable transportation for meeting with sources or covering games and events.

Schedule

This is a full-time position.
