Pit Supervisor

Oversee day-to-day operations of the aggregate plant, ensuring efficient production and compliance with environmental regulations. Assist the Plant Manager in mine development through stripping and reclamation operations to achieve optimum utilization at the lowest operating cost. Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing company safety policies, MSHA/OSHA, and other regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise activities of hourly employees conducting land stripping and reclamation functions; may perform hands-on repair work when necessary.
  • Plan and prioritize objectives with results-oriented skills to maintain scheduling while meeting budget parameters.
  • Participate in the recruitment process, including screening and hiring hourly employees.
  • Schedule department requirements to support daily, weekly, and monthly activities for material processing operations.
  • Provide or assist with coaching and disciplinary counseling for employees under your supervision.
  • Assign work based on production needs and manpower planning.
  • Collaborate with the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) department to promote a safe work environment that meets all state and federal regulations.
  • Work closely with plant management to ensure mine development and reclamation activities meet expectations.
  • Implement cost-saving programs and continuous improvement activities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Participate in short- and long-range business planning for operations.
  • Conduct regular department inspections.
  • Monitor and maintain plant equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and repairs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; BS/BA degree, Associate degree, or equivalent combination of training and work experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in land stripping and reclamation activities.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Construction materials industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices of supervising employees.
  • Understanding of all phases of mine development, including land clearing, stripping, and reclamation for sand and aggregate facilities.
  • Hands-on ability to perform work when needed.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations.
  • Strong organizational, business planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop performance measurements and establish practices to meet or exceed goals.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
  • Daily operation of a pickup truck.
  • Proficiency with computerized equipment and technology.
  • Work environment includes both indoor office settings and outdoor quarry/plant conditions.
  • Exposure to unprotected heights, moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and on uneven surfaces.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work in a stressful, deadline-oriented environment requiring complex decision-making.
  • Capability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $81,114 - $121,638 annually. This range does not include discretionary bonuses or equity packages. Compensation is determined based on skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
