About the Role
In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters for a business line technology, including preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) models, and construction drawings.
- Locates and designs support for various piping systems, familiar with common pipe support hardware, industry standards, and relevant codes such as AISC & ASME B31.3.
- Works closely with layout personnel and pipe stress engineers to deliver a quality and cost-effective design.
- Coordinates with other engineering disciplines and vendors as required.
- Prior experience should include working in a 3D model environment; assists in constructing detailed scale models.
- Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
- Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation, and construction economy.
- Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Participates in constructability reviews.
- Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
- Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
- Reviews PD&P design scope changes, as required, for project management.
- Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Good knowledge of AISC and ASME B31.3 and other relevant industry codes and standards.
- Prior experience using Pipe Support Modeler software.
- Previous Bechtel project experience.
- Previous DOD/DOE project experience.
