About the role
Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, is seeking a Pipeline Project Engineer to join our Detroit, MI office. This role involves developing and applying broad knowledge and skills in various natural gas workstreams, independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform pipeline projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare pipeline designs, including calculations, drawings, profiles, details, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions requiring knowledge of engineering practices and shop and field procedures.
- Develop and apply broad knowledge and skills in various natural gas workstreams, independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform pipeline projects.
- Acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods.
- Gas system network and hydraulic analysis.
- Construction specification and bid package preparation.
- Pipeline design and material selection.
- Alternative/Feasibility studies.
- Develop status reports with task completion, progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Work closely with other workgroups at our clients' place of business and Kleinfelder offices.

Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- 6-10 years relevant experience
- PE is Preferred
- Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software
- Technical communication
- Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
- Utility business understanding
- Valid Driver's license
- Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations Title 42 Part 192
Qualifications
- Knowledge of engineering practices and shop and field procedures
- Ability to function as a member or Lead of multidisciplinary teams
- Sound engineering judgment
- Ability to assign tasks to and coordinate with drafting and administrative staff
- Ability to assign tasks to and coordinate work of Associate Engineers and technicians or administrative staff within team
- Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and coaching to entry-level and other Engineers
- Ability to assist in determining schedule & budget requirements
- Ability to support business development and marketing initiatives
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of pipeline design and construction
- Experience with CAD and GIS software

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
