About the role
The Pipelayer will be responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, drains, and water mains. This position requires precision in pipe alignment, trench preparation, and sealing, as well as adherence to all safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and box culverts (RCB) for pipe extensions and full crossings.
Responsibilities
- Prepare work areas and ensure trenches are properly graded and excavated for pipe installation.
- Set up lasers with grades and verify percentage slopes per project drawings.
- Make necessary field adjustments in coordination with supervision.
- Assemble, align, and connect pipe sections, ensuring accurate placement and spacing.
- Lay pipe for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, drains, and water mains according to specifications.
- Seal joints using appropriate materials such as cement, glue, or sealants.
- Inspect pipe connections to ensure proper fit, spacing, and alignment.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Cover, backfill, and compact trenches once pipe installation is complete.
- Work with concrete pipes and safety end treatments.
- Follow all company and project-specific safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in utility or roadway construction.
- Experience working with reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) up to 42" and box culvert systems (RCB).
- Knowledge of setting grades, laser levels, and slope verification.
- Physical ability to perform assigned tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, and working in trenches.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and their safe operation.
- Experience with safety end treatments and related concrete pipe work.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and safety-conscious.
- Flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends as required by project needs.
